SWINTON STATION 2007 0
SWINTON WMC ended 20 years of hurt by sealing the Mexborough League title with a 2-1 win over nearest rivals Goldthorpe Comrades.

A point would have been enough to land the trophy for Swinton who started their quest nervously.

Comrades were much the better side in the early stages and took the lead on 20 minutes.

The setback only spurred Swinton on and they were soon level through Brady Roberts.

Swinton truly gelled after the break when they defended solidly and pushed on in search of the winner. Roberts drilled home a 25 yard free kick to seal the win and claim the title.

It proved to be an excellent week for Swinton who also won the George Jowett Memorial Trophy with a 3-0 win over local rivals Swinton Station 2007.

Station were the better side for long periods but Swinton took control after opening the scoring. Ricky License scored twice with Nicky Darker grabbing the third.
