Match Report by Rob Furniss
Robin Hood went in front 1-0 on the half hour mark through a penalty taken and converted by Jordan Pilling. A rightful penalty awarded after Westville goalkeeper Jordan Watson brought down Pilling when through on goal. This was against the run of play as the first 25 minutes had been all Westville and only two wonderful saves from the Robin Hood goalkeeper kept the tie at 0-0.
Westville were down to 10 men for the last ten minutes of the first half when Captain Kieran Hirst was sent to the sin bin for comments made to the referee, however Westville still continued to attack at pace and deservedly brought the game level 1-1 on 40 minutes when Nicky Harper finished from inside the box following a neat build up of play.
Second half and Westville back up to 11 men started the half the better of the sides again attacking with intent from the off. A number of missed opportunities came and went, the Robin Hood goalkeeper pulling an outstanding save from Kieran Hirst when through one on one. Westville finally got the breakthrough on the hour when Kieran Hirst beat the offside trap and this time finished past the keeper 2-1.
A couple of substitutions from Robin Hood including player / manager Hayden Barnett coming on seemed to steady Robin Hood and they worked hard to try and get back into the game. On 70 minutes however, Westville once again broke away, Kieran Hirst beating the offside trap once again and rounded the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
The last 20 minutes Robin Hood threw everything forward in search of a reply which just would not come. They did pull a goal back on 85 minutes through Alun Walters to set up a nervy final few minutes for Westville who held on for a more than deserved victory and 5th George Jowett Cup triumph.
